Remote Rapport: How To Stay Connected While Working From Home

Working from home doesn’t have to feel like you’re isolated from your team. Although figuring out how to stay connected while working from home can be difficult, it is actually quite simple once you have everything set up correctly and you take the right approach to your workday.

Swapping your business from working in the office to working from home is getting easier and easier thanks to the multitude of tools available to business owners nowadays. Working remotely is also a great way for businesses to reduce costs. Avoiding paying for expensive office spaces, dealing with utility bills, stocking the office, coffee machine rental prices, and other costs can help to increase profits significantly moving forward, allowing business owners access to more funds which they can reinvest into their organisation down the line.

Let’s take a look at how you can stay connected with your colleagues when you’re working from home to ensure you stay productive and on track towards your goals.

Open Door Policy

Always ensure you let your team know you have an open-door policy when it comes to your team communications. Whether you communicate primarily through Zoom, Slack, Skype, by phone, email or instant messenger, it’s important that your employees know that you can be contacted with ease. With this approach, you can be sure that they will call you when needed, ensuring that you and your team always stay connected and up-to-date while working from home.

Video Communication

Everyone prefers to see a friendly face rather than lines of text in an email. With more companies than ever before adopting a remote wor setup, software such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams have become increasingly popular, allowing for seamless face-to-face communication with team members. Remember, just because you are at home doesn’t mean you should slack off when it comes to staying professional on video calls. Ensure the room behind you is tidy and that you maintain a somewhat professional appearance.

Client Communication

Keeping in contact with your clients while working from home is key for your business to continue to be successful in moving forward. Regular meetings and catch up sessions are a great way to ensure you are always on their mind and to improve your relationship going forward. Just because you are working remotely does not mean that the service you provide to your customers should be any less effective than it was when working in a physical office space.

Regular Team Meetings

Without regular meetings, it can be hard to keep track of everything that is going on in the office. Team meetings are a great way to keep everyone up-to-date with the progress of projects, new clients, changes to procedures or policy, and issues that need attention within the company. What’s more, meeting regularly with your teams virtually allows you the chance to catch up with everyone in your team to maintain a strong employee-employer relationship when you’re working from home.

Stay Connected With Your Team When Working Remotely

No matter how you decide to communicate with your team, whether using communication tools, phone, instant messaging or email, it’s vital that you are in regular contact with your employees. As more and more companies make the switch to working remotely, it’s more important than ever that you have the right systems in place to ensure seamless communications between everyone working in your organisation, from those on the front lines to senior management and everyone in between.

Proper communication is essential for any business to be successful. When working remotely, however, it is even more crucial as with regular contact, you can prevent your team from feeling isolated. Instead, with the right setup, you can be sure that your employees will be productive in their roles and have the support they need to move your business in the right direction.
