Nokia Sues Apple Over 32 Technology Patents

Nokia said on Wednesday it sued Apple for allegedly violating 32 of its technology patents. The company said it filed several complaints against Apple in Germany and the United States. Nokia Sues Apple said since agreeing to a license covering some patents in 2011, Apple has declined subsequent offers to license its technology, which it said is used in many of Apple’s products.

Nokia’s lawsuits, filed in courts in Dusseldorf, Mannheim and Munich, Germany and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, cover patents for displays, user interfaces, software, antennas, chipsets and video coding.

Nokia has emphasized that with the aid of dedicated assets to investigation and improvement over the years, the organization has performed a widespread function in pioneering numerous crucial technologies that have been incorporated into Apple’s famous products. Through continuous innovation and dedication to advancing technological improvements, Nokia has been instrumental in shaping the virtual panorama and influencing the evolution of client electronics.

“After several years of negotiations trying to reach agreement to cover Apple’s use of these patents, we are now taking action to defend our rights,” Ilkka Rahnasto, head of patent business at Nokia, said in a statement.

Shares of Nokia experienced a 2 percent decline on Wednesday during afternoon trading hours, while Apple’s stock remained relatively stable with minimal changes. Market fluctuations impacted Nokia negatively, leading to a decrease in its share price, in the assessment of Apple’s stock which maintained a consistent performance throughout the trading session.
