6 Skin Problems You Can’t Afford To Ignore

Very few people pay enough attention to their skin health. As such, only a handful of the world’s population routinely visits a dermatologist for skin examinations. For many, skin problems do not rank top on their list of distressing symptoms. It may shock you to find out that some of the skin problems you have been brushing off and treating at home could be a sign of a serious condition or disease that needs immediate skin treatment by morpheus8.

Skin Problems That Could Be More Dangerous Than You Know

1. Purple Rashes

If you notice velvety, dark discolorations on your body, you need to pay attention to them. They could be a result of acanthosis nigricans, a rare condition that affects body creases and folds. You will notice the formation of thick skin around the creases of areas such as the neck, armpits, and crotch. Though rare, it mostly affects people living with diabetes or obesity. It could also be a sign of internal cancerous tumors in your liver or stomach in rare cases. You do not want to take your chances when it comes to purple rashes.

2. Discolored Skin

The skin is a huge organ and is often affected by the internal organs and internal functions. This said, you need to critically observe your skin since any discoloration could be an indication of a huge problem within your system. For instance, yellow skin could be an indication of liver problems.

There are many other causes of skin discoloration. To be on the safe side, you may want to see a doctor as soon as you notice color changes on your skin.

3. Butterfly Rash

The butterfly rash, also known as the Malar rash, gains its name from its appearance. It often starts from the nose, spreading to the cheeks, resembling a butterfly’s wings. In most cases, it could be harmless. However, a few butterfly rash instances have been reported to be signs of more severe conditions, such as Bloom syndrome, Lyme disease, or lupus.

4. Scaly Scalp

If your head has thick scales that look silver-yellow and are firmly attached to the scalp, you may need to pay closer attention. You could be suffering from a rare skin condition known as Pityriasis amiantacea. Although the disease has no cure, it is manageable with medicated shampoos.

5. Bald Patches

Balding is a relatively normal process, depending on several factors, such as genetics. However, if you are young and are losing hair in patches, you need to be concerned. Bald patches can be a sign of alopecia areata, a condition in which your immune system does not foster hair cells’ reproduction. However, you cannot be sure about this unless your doctor confirms it.

6. Psoriasis

Psoriasis is an autoimmune disorder characterized by raised red patches around your body. The red patches often have silvery scales on top of them. Psoriasis causes the body to produce surplus skin cells to the point where it cannot shed older skin as fast as it should. It can also sometimes lead to developing other conditions, such as type 2 diabetes or high blood pressure.
