Lyra Smart Bike With GPS And Integrated Lighting

Smart gadgets are often seen as devices that have specialized software, can charge via USB connection, and do a million other things. That’s not so much the case with Lyra, Mission Bicycle’s newest product.

While the Lyra won’t say what’s next on your schedule or pedal for you, it still qualifies as a “smart” device, thanks to its integrated LED lighting and GPS tracking system. If anything, it looks like a perfectly ordinary bicycle when the lights are switched off.

At night, the integrated lighting makes sense. The lights in the front fork give the rider illumination on the road, making the bicycle visible to motorists on dark roads. Red blinking hazard lights are also integrated below the bike’s seat for added safety.

The light battery has a pop-out feature and comes with a micro-USB cable for easy charging. The company claims that one charge can last the battery one month of active use. mission bicycle have woven 100 high brightness LEDs inside the fork blades of the front wheel, that work on one of two modes: super bright, and energy saver. at the rear, 5 high brightness LEDs are integrated into the Seatpost.

The Lyra doesn’t come cheap. The bike’s Kickstarter campaign lists a full single-speed model at $999 (roughly P50,000). An eight-speed model goes for up to $1,449 (roughly P75,000).

Mission Bicycle as a company had successfully released three other smart bicycles through Kickstarter. These models include more “smart” features than the Lyra.

Mission Bicycle’s Lyra may not be the bike for everyone. Considering its high price tag and minimal feature set, bike buyers might be tempted to look elsewhere. However, the idea is quite sound considering the increasing number of people turning to bicycles as a mode of commuting to and from the office.
